Apple may bring iPhone X’s Face ID feature to all models in 2018

One of the most-touted features of Apple’s tenth anniversary iPhone, iPhone X, is its FaceID. In fact, during the unveiling of iPhone X last month, Apple talked most about the feature.
Now as per latest reports, all iPhone models from 2018 onwards will sport the Face ID. The forecast comes from KGI Securities’s analyst Ming Chi Kuo known for his Apple-related predictions.
Kuo had hinted same indirectly in a report last month too. However, the report had a caveat that Apple will include FaceID in next year’s smartphones only if the feature gets due traction this year with the iPhone X.
In his latest note to investors, obtained by Macrumours, Kuo predicts that the upcoming iPhone models are likely to ditch the TouchID or the fingerprint recognition tech completely.
Kuo says that FaceID is likely to keep iPhone on top of its game as Android OEMs could take time to match Apple’s TrueDepth technology, which is used in FaceID. This means the FaceID will stay a major selling point for the company for the next year at least, if not more.
“We predict all new 2H18F iPhone models will likely abandon fingerprint recognition. We believe this change will allow all new models to realize a competitive advantage via differentiation, on the back of an integrated user experience of full-screen design and TrueDepth Camera/ Facial recognition/ Face ID/ AR applications,” said Kuo in the reserach note. If Kuo’s predictions come true, then Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be the last in line to come with TouchID sensors. As the current-generation flagship iPhones, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come sans FaceID.
Pre-orders for iPhone X will start from October 27 in 55 countries, including India. It will hit the retail shelves starting November 3. Apple has priced the iPhone X, which comes in two storage variants 64GB and 256GB, at Rs 89,000 onwards in India. This means that the 64GB variant of iPhone X will be priced at Rs 89,000 while the 256GB variant is priced at Rs 1,02,000.
