Acer Ties Up Starnreeze To Create StarVR Headset

Acer has announced partnership with game studio AcerStarbreeze AB to design and sell StarVR virtual reality headsets.

“Acer is an excellent, experienced and prominent hardware partner that will accelerate us in realizing and producing a high-definition, high-fidelity VR headset,” said Bo Andersson Klint, Starbreeze CEO. Acer is also developing desktops and laptops that support StarVR headsets.

StarVR headset was announced by Starbreeze in June 2015 during Electronic Entertainment Expo. Starbreeze in January this year also launched its location-based VR centres to let more users experience their virtual reality headset.

StarVR headset’s key highlight is its wide field of vision that is said to be close to what a person can see in real life. The headset as per the company offers a 210-degree field of view, which is way more than HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR headset’s 110-degree field of view.

Virtual reality has lately been gaining attention from both users as well as tech companies. HTC and Facebook-owned Oculus recently launched their virtual reality devices in the market. South Korean electronics giant too has made its entry in the market with its Gear VR headset. Google too is rumoured to bring an improved version of its Cardboard VR headset at the upcoming Google I/O 2016 conference.

South Korea recently said it is planning to film sports such as ski jumping and snowboarding at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics by 360-degree virtual reality cameras and broadcast them live on related headsets.
