Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, said on Saturday that if the microblogging service is removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play, he would think about developing a “alternative phone.”

Liz Wheeler, a Twitter user, had wrote, “If Apple & Google kick Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should build his own smartphone.  The prejudiced, snooping iPhone & Android would be happily abandoned by half of the country. A foolish little smartphone ought to be simple for the man who makes rockets to Mars, right?,” to which Mr. Musk responded.

The “Chief Twit” responded by saying he “definitely” doesn’t want Apple and Google to take Twitter out of their prestigious storefronts. Musk did, however, add that he would create a “other phone” if it came to that and there was “no other choice.”

A lot of attention was immediately focused on Mr. Musk’s tweet on the microblogging site. I think he’ll revolutionize smartphones, one user said, while another wrote, “I feel like this plan is already in the works.”

In the meantime, a recent post claims that Mr. Musk’s remarks came after Phil Schiller, an Apple employee in charge of running the App Store, cancelled his Twitter account. Separately, it comes after Yoel Roth, the former head of trust and safety at Twitter, warned that the social media behemoth runs the possibility of being kicked out of Apple and Google’s app stores if they don’t follow rules.

Speaking to the New York Times, Mr Roth said, “Failure to adhere to Apple’s and Google’s guidelines would be catastrophic, risking Twitter’s expulsion from their app stores and making it more difficult for billions of potential users to get Twitter’s services. This gives Apple and Google enormous power to shape the decisions Twitter makes.” He further also stated that as he left Twitter, the calls from the app review teams had already begun.
