Microsoft has introduced a groundbreaking AI-powered Copilot, leveraging GPT-4 technology from OpenAI, to revolutionise  its Microsoft 365 suite of apps. The Co-Pilot has been designed to help users generate documents, emails, presentations, and much more across Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, among others. Microsoft 365 head Jared Spataro lauds Copilot as “a whole new way of working” that seamlessly integrates into users everyday work in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more.
The innovative tool works in two ways: embedded within the Microsoft 365 applications that users frequently use and through Business Chat that seamlessly integrates large language models, Microsoft 365 apps, and users’ data, including calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings, and contacts. Copilot can create, edit, and summarise text, rewrite sections or entire documents, and add content to existing documents, among other features, in Microsoft Word. It also enables users to turn ideas into designed presentations through natural language commands in Microsoft PowerPoint, while in Microsoft Excel, it helps users unlock insights, identify trends, or in a fraction of the time, produce data visualisations that look professional.Copilot in Microsoft Outlook can help synthesise and manage the inbox, while Copilot in Teams aims to make meetings more efficient with in-context summaries and action items that are directly related to the conversation.
The Business Chat feature of Copilot is an entirely new experience that taps into the power of the Microsoft Graph in real-time to bring together data from across documents, presentations, email, calendar, notes, and contacts to help summarise chats, write emails, find key dates, or write a plan based on other project files. Copilot in Business Chat collaborates with users, compiling data from various sources to keep the team informed and moving forward as a unit. With the integration of AI tools in its Workspace apps, Google has recently upped the ante, while Facebook’s parent company, Meta, is experimenting with AI-powered chat on WhatsApp and Messenger.
In a world where time is of the essence, Copilot’s AI technology provides Microsoft 365 users with an innovative, easy-to-use tool to manage their workload, enhance productivity, and drive better outcomes. With Microsoft’s integration of AI-powered solutions, users can focus on the most critical work, secure in the knowledge that they have the latest technology on hand to optimize their workflows.
