South Korean consumer electronics major LG Tuesday launched its new range ‘Mosquito Away TV’, which acts as mosquito repellent, in India priced between Rs. 26,900 and Rs. 47,500.

“The LG Mosquito Away TV, developed as per the Indian insights by consumers, is equipped with an Ultra Sonic device which once activated, uses the sound wave technology and makes mosquitoes fly away without emitting any harmful radiations,” LG Electronics India said in a statement.

The new Mosquito Away technology in television is an extension of this philosophy, transiting beyond viewing experience and truly building a healthy environment at home.”

samsung monitor wireless charging

The SE370 comes equipped with integrated wireless charging station that can charge any device which supports the Qi wireless charging standard. Using the new monitor,Samsung believes it can declutter “work areas” by getting rid of “unnecessary cables and ports needed to charge mobile devices.

“To charge a phone, a user needs to place it near the stand’s charging area. Once placed, the phone will automatically begin to charge.

Other features of the monitor aren’t too bad either. It comes in 23.6-inch and 27-inch screen sizes sporting a 1920×1080 pixel full-HD screen resolution and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Both the variants have a 4ms response time, while the 23.6-inch variant has a brightness (luminance) of 250 cd/m2, and the 27-inch variant has a brightness of 300 cd/m2. There’s an HDMI v1.4 port for feeding the input.

“Technology should support, not interfere with, active lifestyles,” Seok-gi Kim, senior vice president of Samsung’s visual display business, said in a statement. “Our customers increasingly rely on mobile devices to obtain information and interact with others; so by doing away with the clutter on their desks, we are helping them to use their mobile devices in a smarter way,” he added.

Samsung didn’t reveal a launch time-frame for the new monitor yet. But hopefully, it will launch by the end of this year.

“We are looking to invest Rs. 1,000 crore in manufacturing and Rs. 500 crorein research and development in the next two to three years,” Keshav Bansal, director atIntex Technologies, told IANS.

The company, which is opening its fifth plant in Greater Noida over 20 lakh square metres, also said that it will add at least 3,000 jobs in the country during the same time period to build on its existing 6,000 workforce.

Asked about the company’s contribution to the government’s Digital India and Make In India campaigns, Sanjay Kalirona, head of mobile business at Intex, said: “We believe in improving the quality of life by providing affordable technology to consumers. We broke the smartphone segment to under Rs. 5,000 and forced other brands to reduce the price of Android handsets.”

Further explaining, Bansal said: “Many people aspire to use technology but cannot afford it and hence at Intex our first job is to provide everybody with a smartphone or a smart device which will in turn contribute to the prime minister’s campaigns and ensure financial inclusion.”

The company is now looking to break the Rs.10,000 price band, Kalirona said.

Intex, which currently procures smartphone parts from China, is also making some components in India. “We have started making our own batteries, earphones and chargers and doing the packaging in India, which would account for 20 percent of the overall product,” Kalirona said.

“Next will be the glass for the screen. We will soon try and get the glass-cutting process here,” he added.

The company also said that the government was instrumental in creating a more friendly atmosphere for manufacturing in India. “Although several factors like labour lawss need improvement, the first step the government took was cutting duties. Now, we also have got the land we needed for our plant,” Kalirona said.

As part of its mobile business strategy, Intex is now focussing on design, software and apps. “The future lies in software and the company’s strong research and development team, which includes over 100 trained individuals, are looking at affordable products with good customer experiences, he added.

Bansal also said that Intex will roll out the Saskhat security app for women, which is now in beta phase, on the iRist and smartphone platform in 20 days.

The domestic brand, which currently has a 10.7 percent market share and ranks second among domestic handset-makers, according to analysis firm International Data Corporation (IDC), has also expanded into the consumer durables category.

Explaining the move, Bansal said that the company feels that it has the bandwidth necessary to dive into these segments. “We are looking to consolidate the manufacturing process. The plant at Greater Noida will not only produce smart phones but other consumer durables like television sets, washing machines, peripherals and IT accessories,” he added.

The company, which will spend Rs. 270 crores on marketing as a part of its planned expenditure this financial year, is targeting revenue of Rs. 9,000 crore during fiscal 2015-16, of which Rs. 7,500 crore is expected from the handset business.

Vu Launches ‘Made for TV’ TViST Speakers Fri, 19 Jun 2015 05:27:53 +0000 Read more »]]> Vu has unveiled its latest product, the TViST speakers. The new product is claimed to be designed and tuned to specifically enhance dialogue and voice clarity, making it ideal for use with TVs. The speakers can be used either in soundbar mode, where they are joined to make a single speaker which is laid flat at the base of the TV, or as two speakers placed upright.

vu tvist main

The TViST speakers won’t be sold separately; instead, buyers of specific 60-inch, 65-inch and 85-inch models will receive the speaker bundled with the TV. The 60S8575 (Rs. 92,000), 65XT780 (Rs. 1,42,000) and 85XT900 (Rs. 9,00,000) will now be sold with the TViST speakers bundled in the sales package. The intention of this seems to be to offer customers additional value and promote sales of Vu’s larger and more expensive TVs. The speakers are also Bluetooth-enabled, which makes it possible to use them with mobile phones and tablets. A remote for the speakers is also included, which can be used from a distance of up to six metres and at an angle of up to 30 degrees – useful if paired to a device separately from the television. The speakers feature an output of 20Wx2, have an impedance of 8 Ohms, and measure 1065x62x60 mm.

The CEO of Vu Technologies Devita Saraf, said of the launch, “This is a perfect product that suits our wise and acquainted customers’ requirement for an actual sharp and clear sound quality. A perfect experience of entertainment has to be a seamless blend of crystal clear picture and accentuated audio performance and this is where Vu TViST comes in picture and will deliver. Customers can either mount the adjoined bar on the wall or keep it standing tall on a table top. The product brings in a sense of class coupled with its cutting-edge technology and utility.”

Vu has been in the Indian market since its inception in 2006. The company currently deals in LED TVs, digital signage, video walls and touch screens. Vu has a wide range of TVs in various sizes and resolutions, which are sold through Vu stores all over India as well as e-commerce portals.

Intex has launched its first 50-inch full-HD LED television set, the LED-5000FHD Fri, 05 Jun 2015 06:53:26 +0000 Read more »]]> Intex has launched its first 50-inch full-HD LED television set, the LED-5000FHD, at Rs. 49,000. Intex has traditionally stuck to the small TV market, and the launch of this 50-inch television marks the brand’s entry into the large TV segment.

intex 5000fhd main

The previous largest TV by Intex was the 42-inch 4200FHD, which was launched at the end of March this year. Like that model, the 5000FHD features a 1920×1080 pixel screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The TV also features Eye Safe T Matrix technology, which is said to improve smoothness in the picture and reduce viewing fatigue.

A key feature of the new Intex LED-5000FHD is its low response time of 9.2ms. Response time represents the amount of time it takes for one pixel to go from active (black) to inactive (white) and back to black again. High response times can cause motion blurring and smearing in the picture, so a low response time represents a smoother picture. However, the response time is still considerably higher than manufacturers such as Sony and Samsung, which offer televisions with response times lower than 5ms. The Intex 5000FHD also features an assortment of connectivity options, with one RF, two HDMI, two AV in, one AV out, two USB, YPbP, VGA, PC audio in and headphone out.

Intex continues to price its products exorbitantly, considering that brands like Micromax, Vu and Mitashi have been selling higher-specced products for around the same or less price. All of these manufacturers have launched 4K models, while Intex continues to dabble in the full-HD space without offering consumers any real price benefit.

The Intex LED-5000FHD is available now through the company’s network of retail stores and multi-brand hypermarkets. Intex has been a major player in India since its launch in 1996, and specialises in TVs, mobile phones and IT durables.
